How much do I need to retire in Spain?

Understand the difference between monthly living costs and the assets needed to sustain retirement in Spain across different ages, incomes and lifestyles.

Model the amount I may need

Monthly cost is not the same as lifetime capital

A monthly lifestyle estimate describes current spending. The assets needed to sustain it also depend on retirement age, State Pension timing, DB income, household, longevity, returns, healthcare, relocation and currency movement.

Three illustrative modelled profiles

ExampleSpain spendingBase outcome

These are structured examples, not universal Spanish budget bands or recommendations.

What the Spain model covers

State Pension uprating, destination spending, editable healthcare and relocation allowances, and deterministic FX sensitivity are modelled. FX sensitivity is stress testing, not a currency forecast. The UK–Spain treaty framework is recorded for State Pension and ordinary private or occupational pensions.

Tax, healthcare and residency limitations

Spanish personal income tax is not calculated. Flexible DC withdrawals, lump sums, government-service pensions, investments, UK property and individual treaty relief require individual analysis. Spain may not recognise ISA tax-free treatment.

S1 eligibility and public healthcare registration are not guaranteed. Residency qualification, legal status and property purchase are outside the calculator. This is general modelling, not tax, legal, immigration, investment or healthcare advice.

Explore places, then model the finances

Costs and daily life vary substantially between Costa Blanca, South Tenerife and other parts of Spain. RetirementInSight models the financial consequences; WhereCanIRetire helps answer where in Spain may suit you.
